Accipiter, who missed the whole of the last jumps season with a leg injury, is set to return to action at Newbury in November.
Trainer Jonathan Geake has the six-year-old back in light work and is now targeting all the top staying hurdles in the coming campaign.
Accipiter stated his claims for a crack at the best when winning a valuable contest at Ascot before going on to take the 2004 Sefton Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree’s Grand National meeting.
Geake is now eyeing the Grade Two Ballymore Properties Long Distance Hurdle over an extended three miles at Newbury on November 26 for Accipter’s return.
He said: “He’s back in work and about to start cantering and I’d like to run him in the long-distance hurdle on the same day as the Hennessy.
“The criteria for running this horse will always be that the ground is at least good to soft, especially in view of the fact that he’s had a tendon problem which he picked up when winning at Liverpool.”
