A female police officer was injured today after a fight broke out among a crowd of up to 30 people.

A female police officer was injured today after a fight broke out among a crowd of up to 30 people.

Police had been called to the Woodhouse Street area of Portadown after two men in their 20s were beaten in a sectarian attack.

As officers went to the aid of the pair the large crowd gathered and a fight broke out.

Police intervened and the female officer was assaulted.

Both the woman and one of the men injured in the initial attack were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police in Portadown have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
