Legislation on reduction of judge's pay published

Legislation on the reduction of judges' pay has been published by the Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin.

It is expected to be passed in the coming weeks and will be in force by the New Year.

Under the legislation, judges appointed after the enactment will be lower paid than current judges and will have different pension arrangements, in line with other public servants.

The changes are being made as a result of the constitutional amendment on judges' pay which was passed last month.
