McGrath Cup fixtures confirmed

The Munster Council have confirmed the fixtures for the 2006 McGrath Cup senior football competition.

11 teams, including six Munster county sides, have been entered into the tournament which was won last January by Limerick. The Shannonsiders, who also claimed the 2004 McGrath Cup title, beat Cork IT 2-10 to 1-3 in the '05 final.

The third level colleges included for 2006 are Cork IT, IT Tralee, the University of Limerick, University College Cork and Waterford IT.

Tommy Murphy Cup champions Tipperary have been drawn to play Cork IT in the preliminary round, with a quarter-final date with either Cork or IT Tralee in the offing. Holders Limerick have been paired with Waterford IT in the quarter-finals.

The McGrath Cup final has been fixed for Sunday, January 29. Extra time will be played in all games if necessary, until a result is achieved. Admission to games up to and including semi-final has been set at €5 and with admission to the final €10.

Preliminary round -

Sunday, January 8: Cork IT v Tipperary, Clonmel; Cork v IT Tralee, Cork venue; Wednesday, January 11: Kerry v University of Limerick, Tralee.

Quarter-finals -

Sunday, January 15: Cork/IT Tralee v Tipperary/Cork IT, venue tbc; Kerry/University of Limerick v Waterford, Kerry venue; Clare v UCC, Cooraclare; Limerick v Waterford IT, Limerick venue.

Semi-finals -

Sunday, January 22: Limerick/Waterford IT v Cork/IT Tralee/Tipperary/Cork IT, venue tbc; Clare/UCC v Kerry/University of Limerick/Waterford, venue tbc.

Final -

Sunday, January 29: venue tbc.
