No change for Ireland in FIFA rankings

The Republic of Ireland remain 18th in the latest FIFA world rankings ahead of their campaign in Poland and Ukraine.

The Republic of Ireland remain 18th in the latest FIFA world rankings ahead of their campaign in Poland and Ukraine.

The latest FIFA table released today show Ireland's Group C rivals Spain widening the gap at the top, with Uruguay ousting Germany from second spot and Portugal dropping five places to 10th.

World and European champions Spain remained untouchable at the summit, extending their lead even further with Uruguay – World Cup semi-finalists in 2010 and Copa America winners last summer – now their nearest challengers.

Brazil, England, Argentina and Denmark also made progress – up to fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth respectively.

Portugal slipped down the list from fifth after a goalless draw against FYR Macedonia and a 3-1 defeat against Turkey in the build-up to Euro 2012.
