Giuseppe Cardone struck in the 16th minute at the Renato Dall’Ara stadium to give the travelling side hope and then Italian international striker Alberto Gilardino, who had been suspended in the first leg, added the second in first-half stoppage time.

The loss for Bologna ends 10 successive years in the top flight of Italian football.
