Senior officials in Ireland’s local authorities reportedly received €2m in performance-related bonuses last year.

Reports this morning said the awards were the first made by a special body set up last April to decide on bonuses for officials who achieve progress in various areas such as the building of landfills.

Officials can receive bonuses of up to 20% of their salary under the scheme.

This morning’s reports said a total of 269 people share the €2m awarded last year, with four officials receiving between €13,000 and €18,000.
