Fine Gael has added its voice to growing calls for the Government to reduce taxes and excise duties on fuel.

The AA has already called for the move in response to rising petrol and diesel prices, while the Small Firms Association has warned that increasing energy costs will drive up inflation.

Speaking about the matter today, Fine Gael TD Phil Hogan said the Government was making a mistake by adopting a wait-and-see approach.

"We want a more proactive approach from the Government in relation to ensuring that the customer gets the best value for money in relation to diesel and petrol prices," he said.
