Contractors in the construction sector are being warned not to cut corners on health and safety due to the recession.
The Construction Safety Partnership is holding a forum in Dublin today to discuss how best to keep workers safe during the recession.
While vast improvements have been made in Ireland over the past decade, seven construction workers have died as a result of falls so far this year.
The CSP says there is a danger that health and safety procedures may be affected as contractors seek to cut costs due to the downturn in building.
It says it will be using today's forum to press home the point that safety should remain the top priority across the construction sector.
