Police are investigating a tape of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's comments about a Hispanic lawmaker having "hot" blood, amid claims a private conversation was illegal downloaded from the internet.
The comments - about Republican Bonnie García - were printed in the Los Angeles Times last week, prompting the actor-turned-politician to apologise publicly.
Now cops in California are probing the possibility the conversation was illegally obtained from digital files in state computers only a few people have access to.
California Highway Patrol spokesperson Fran Calder says: "We can confirm that we are looking into the security of the governor's office computer system."
Schwarzenegger's legal affairs secretary tells website PageSix.com the identity of the computer used to hack the system has been identified.
