EU imposes embargo on Syrian oil

The European Union is imposing an embargo on oil imports from Syria amid continuing violence in that country.

The European Union is imposing an embargo on oil imports from Syria amid continuing violence in that country.

An EU statement said the ban covers purchase, import and transport of oil and other petroleum products from Syria. The EU has also prohibited financial or insurance services involved in such transactions.

Four more Syrian individuals and three entities were added to the list of those targeted by an EU asset freeze and travel ban.

The United Nations estimates that 2,200 people have been killed during Syria’s months-long crackdown on anti-government protesters.
