Burton calls for quick Charities Regulator appointment

The Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has said she would like to see a Charities Regulator selected as soon as possible.

Burton added that while it is a matter for the Justice Minister, it is imperative a regulator is in place quickly.

“I would certainly like very much to see the Charities Regulator being appointed.

“Possibly on an interim basis, but certainly seeing that (process) underway as quickly as the Department of Justice are able to make the arrangements”, said the minister.

Last month, Minister Burton said a regulator should be in place within six months.
