Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has denied a report claiming his club have been in contact with Jose Mourinho over the possibility of him becoming manager.
A story in the Italian press this morning suggested the Serie A champions had approached the Portuguese, who yesterday ruled himself out of the running to replace Steve McClaren as England boss.
But in a statement released by Inter today, Moratti denied any contact with the former Chelsea manager.
“Regarding a story that was published on Tuesday in Gazzetta dello Sport, president Massimo Moratti has categorically denied any presumed contact or meeting with Jose Mourinho,” the statement read.
“It is a false story which causes a serious disturbance to the club.”
Mourinho has been strongly linked to Inter’s city rivals AC Milan, and yesterday’s announcement that he does not want the England job has added to speculation that he is on verge of joining a major European club.
