The director general of the Iraqi Trade Ministry and his driver were killed by gunmen today in western Baghdad.
Ali Moussa was head of the auditing office in the Trade Ministry, said ministry spokesman Faraj al-Jaafari.
He was killed while driving to work, the spokesman added. It was the latest in a series of drive-by shootings that have killed government officials or administrators.
“Unknown gunmen killed him and his driver while he was heading to work,” al-Jaafari said.
He was killed in the As Salam district of Baghdad when the gunmen, in a car, sprayed his four-door Proton sedan with automatic weapons fire.
Moussa, in his 50s, was a well known official at the ministry.
Before taking the auditing post, he was in charge of financial and administrative affairs. He also worked at the ministry under the regime of Saddam Hussein as a junior official.
