Halle Berry is expected to bring a touch of glamour to the Cannes red carpet today.
Fans hope the 39-year-old Catwoman star will be attending the premiere of the new film, X Men: The Last Stand, with co-star Ian McKellen and director Brett Ratner.
The sci-fi thriller is the latest instalment in the X Men trilogy and has its worldwide opening at the famous film festival.
Last night the festival showcased the first 20 minutes of the new controversial Oliver Stone movie, World Trade Center, about the September 11 attacks.
There was a mixed response to the segment of the film, which is still unfinished and not set to open in cinemas until August.
The movie focuses on the stories of heroic policemen John McLoughlin and William Jimeno, who were the last to be picked out of the rubble of the Twin Towers.
The beginning of the film, which stars Nicholas Cage and Michael Pena, shows how both men’s typical morning suddenly unravels. The moment the first plane hit the Twin Towers is not shown explicitly, but is seen from the point of view of one of the policemen, as a giant shadow of a plane passing overhead.
The scenes become more apocalyptic as the men begin their rescue efforts before the second plane crashes into their tower and buries them under the rubble.
Meanwhile, British film-maker Andrea Arnold won warm reviews for her first feature film Red Road, which is in competition for the Palme d’Or.
