The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has announced that the new stretch of the N6 between Kinnegad and Tyrrelspass in Co Westmeath will open earlier than expected.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has announced that the new stretch of the N6 between Kinnegad and Tyrrelspass in Co Westmeath will open earlier than expected.

Mr Ahern made the announcement during a visit to Mullingar today.

He said the new stretch of road would open in either December of early January, almost a full year ahead of schedule and within budget.

The new stretch of motorway will take thousands of lorries and cars out of towns like Milltownpass and Rochfortbridge on a daily basis.
