David Byrne appointed to IL&P board
Irish Life & Permanent plc chairperson Gillian Bowler has announced the appointment of David Byrne as a non-executive director of the group.
David Byrne served as EU Commissioner with responsibility for Health and Consumer Protection from 1999 to 2004.
Prior to becoming EU Commissioner he served as Attorney General for two years.
The 57-year-old has been a senior counsel since 1985 and was a member of the International Court of Commercial Arbitration from 1990 to 1997.
Speaking on the appointment, Ms Bowler said that he will bring a wealth of experience to the group: “David’s EU Commissioner role with responsibility for consumer protection and his wide legal background will be invaluable to the group and I look forward to his contribution to the work of the board”.
