Former heroin addict receives four years for possession

A former heroin addict who was caught selling over €10,000 worth of cocaine has received a four year sentence from Judge Patricia Ryan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

A former heroin addict who was caught selling over €10,000 worth of cocaine has received a four year sentence from Judge Patricia Ryan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Gary Boylan (aged 36), of North Strand Road, Dublin 3, pleaded guilty to possession of the drugs, worth €10,163, for sale or supply at his home on October 13, 2004.

Judge Ryan took into account Boylan’s 18 previous convictions and the fact that €4,350 in cash, the proceeds of drug trafficking, was found hidden in a bible under his mattress.

She suspended the last two years of the sentence having taken into account that Boylan hasn’t come to the attention of gardaí since December 2005, has put an end to "significant dependence on heroin", his previous excellent employment record and his promising job prospects.
