Mick Kinane was taken to hospital for X-rays on a suspected broken wrist following a nasty incident at the Curragh today, while Fran Berry has fractured ribs.
The pair were aboard Redstone Dancer and Indian Rite respectively in the Lanwades & Staffordstown Studs (Fillies) Maiden when the accident occurred around three furlongs out.
Berry’s mount slipped and fell, breaking her leg and bringing down Kinane and Redstone Dancer who were travelling behind.
Kinane was stretchered into an ambulance and both he and Berry were taken to Blanchardstown Hospital for a more thorough examination.
“I was not racing today but was alerted within 10 minutes of the incident,” said Dr Walter Halley, the Turf Club Medical Officer.
“They were both taken to Blanchardstown Hospital under the care of an orthopaedic surgeon.
“Fran Berry is having X-rays but has clearly fractured ribs while Michael is having X-rays on a suspected fracture of his wrist.”
The fall put a dampener on what has been a terrific week for Kinane, who was not only crowned top jockey at York’s Ebor meeting but also took the Group One Juddmonte International on Italian raider Electrocutionist.
