'Quirky' camping options get seal of approval from Fáilte Ireland
The popularity of staying in tree houses, pods, yurts, caravans and cabins has soared in Ireland in recent years.
Now Fáilte Ireland has approved a range of those providing more unusual or quirky tourist accommodation for a new "Welcome Standard", so they can display their seal of approval and be recognised internationally.
The tourism industry generates more than €6 billion in revenue every year.
Dick Ridge from Pod Umna Glamping Village, in Co Galway, said the company is "thrilled to bits" by the approval.
"Glamping is glamorous camping - posh tents for you and I," he said. "They're like little hobbit houses.
"We've our sign up, and we're so proud that we can associate ourselves with such an internationally recognised symbol as Fáilte Ireland. It's incredible, and it speaks volumes for how well they regard us."
