Fianna Fáil and the Green Party are due to hold a fourth day of negotiations today with a view to forming a coalition Government.
Both parties say they made further progress during more than eight hours of discussions yesterday, but agreement has yet to be reached on a number of important issues.
Fianna Fáil negotiator Seamus Brennan gave an upbeat assessment of the situation, saying the two sides had found that they share "quite a few" policy objectives.
However, that could change today when the negotiations get around to difficult issues like taxation, political donations and the controversial plan to build private health facilities on the grounds of public hospitals.
The two parties have significantly different views in these areas.
