Hatton Flight given Newton clearance

Andrew Balding is to give Hatton Flight the chance to make amends for running loose at Royal Ascot by saddling him for the bet365 Old Newton Cup at Haydock on Saturday.

The five-year-old gelding was sent off third favourite for the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap only to stumble and unseat William Buick after leaving the stalls.

Hatton Flight had gone to Ascot in the form of his life, having chalked up a hat-trick with wins at Lingfield, Epsom and Newmarket.

“He seems none the worse for his little jaunt round Ascot, so hopefully he’ll run on Saturday,” said the Kingsclere trainer.

“It was unfortunate, but he seems in good form.”
