Gone Without Trace
Imagining Argentina
Christopher Hampton
Antonio Banderas, Emma Thompson, Claire Bloom, Ruben Blades
15.
The story of the 'disappeared' in Argentina during the l970s - those people spirited away because they opposed the government - deserves a better telling than this disappointing drama.
There is, clearly, a serious and thought-provoking examination to be made of those troubled times, but Hampton doesn't come close here.
Banderas plays the director of a children's theatre company whose wife, a poor performance from Thompson, goes missing. In trying to find her, he discovers things he would rather not have known about, mostly because he is into curious visions.
There is nothing to set our own imagining aflame as everything about this one falls rapidly apart.
