Ursis set for Powers trip

Ursis will bid to build on a good performance at the Cheltenham Festival in the Powers Gold Cup at Fairyhouse on Sunday.

The Steve Gollings-trained six-year-old finished fourth in handicap company behind Andreas at Prestbury Park but will return to the novice ranks to tackle the Grade One feature this weekend.

“Ursis is entered in three races at Fairyhouse over the three-day meeting but I think he’ll go for the Powers Gold Cup on Sunday,” Gollings said.

“There are 17 left in but he’s the second top-rated in it and it’s a very valuable race.

“Barry Geraghty rode him at Cheltenham when he was fourth in the Grand Annual and he’ll be on board again at the weekend.

“It was a really good run for a novice last time and Barry actually thought he was going to win at one stage. I think he must have a fair chance on Sunday.”
