Police investigating the dissident republican murder of policeman Ronan Kerr have released a man arrested in connection to the offence.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland arrested the 39-year-old man in the Omagh area yesterday under the Terrorism Act.
A spokesman for the PSNI said late last night: “A 39-year-old man arrested earlier today in the Omagh area by detectives investigating offences linked to the murder of constable Roman Kerr has been released unconditionally.”
Another man, from Omagh, was arrested in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, on Monday and taken to a police station in England for questioning.
Detectives from the PSNI’s serious crime branch investigating the April 2011 murder have conducted searches in the Omagh area and Cumbria in the last few days, and several items were seized for examination, including a lorry stopped in Milton Keynes.
Mr Kerr’s death was blamed on dissident republicans opposed to the peace process.
He was from a nationalist background, brought up in a village near Omagh, and his killing caused revulsion among members of the local community.
Dissident republicans have killed policemen, soldiers and prison officers as part of their campaign and the threat level remains severe.
