McEniff announces step-down decision

Brian McEniff has ended the worst-kept secret in Ulster football and parted company as manager of Donegal.

Brian McEniff has ended the worst-kept secret in Ulster football and parted company as manager of Donegal.

The Bundoran hotelier watched his charges bow out of this year's All-Ireland SFC championship in Sunday's second-round qualifier defeat to Cavan, and ended speculation by announcing his decision to step down at last night's county board meeting in Ballybofey.

It was McEniff's sixth term in charge of the Tír Chonaill men. He took up the reins again in 2003 to guide them to the All-Ireland semi-finals.

Aged 63, McEniff, who led Donegal to their first and only All-Ireland title back in 1992, has cited increasing health problems as one of the major reasons for his resignation.
