People in North East of England thought an earthquake was happening but it is thought to have been a fast plane flying overhead.
The British Geological Survey said it received calls from people in the Northumberland and Tyne and Wear areas claiming their "whole house shook" and one said: "I heard a low frequency rumble."
A spokesman was quoted by Chroniclelive.co.uk as saying: "Data from the BGS seismic networks in the region were examined and a signal consistent with a possible sonic origin was recorded at approximately 15.13.
"The reports received are also consistent with historical observations received for previous events with a sonic origin."
