Now a world-leading liver specialist has advised the British number one that, despite fears she could be ruled out of the grass court season, the physical demands tennis makes on her body will have no effects on her health.

But she remains likely to be susceptible to fatigue due to her liver condition and a series of tests will be conducted on her over a period of three weeks after Wimbledon.

Baltacha’s coach Alan Jones said: “We are pleased that Bally’s condition is becoming a lot clearer than it was this time last year.

“It appears that the liver problem has not been caused by a reaction to antibiotics as we were previously told and it could actually be the result of a condition she has had since birth.

“It has been a very frustrating and worrying time for her but she lacks nothing in determination and it will take a lot more than this to get her down.”
