Just Champion for Wadham
Fantastic Champion was Lucy Wadham’s only runner at today’s Fontwell Park meeting and the 15-2 shot made the trip from Newmarket worthwhile in the opening race.
Leighton Aspell’s mount beat Croix De Guerre and Amicelli by a length and a half and the same, leading over the last and holding the challenge of the runner-up comfortably.
Joanne Banks, representing Wadham, said the victory in the Cantor Sport Freephone 08000 938111 Maiden Hurdle was no surprise, adding: “He beat the Triumph Hurdle winner Spectroscope last year twice, and now he has got his confidence back on this better ground,”
Owner Jack Joseph said of Amicelli, a decent handicapper in Germany: “He didn’t disappoint really, but there were no hard luck stories.”
