Gardaí in Kerry are treating as suspicious the discovery of a woman's body found in Tralee earlier today.

Gardaí in Kerry are treating as suspicious the discovery of a woman's body found in Tralee earlier today.

The body of the young women was discovered in a river close to Carney's Bridge by a local man shortly before 11am.

Gardaí were called to the scene which was immediately sealed off and preserved for examination by members of the Garda Technical Bureau.

The body of the women, who is understood to be in her late 20s or early 30s, was removed to Kerry General Hospital, where a post-mortem is being carried out by Assistant State Pathologist Margaret Bolster.
