Ryan and Bonnar to continue with Wexford

Last night's meeting of the Wexford County Board saw Jason Ryan and Colm Bonnar ratified for another year as the county's senior football manager and senior hurling manager respectively.

The two county bosses met last month with Wexford officials for a review of their 2010 campaigns, which both came to disappointing ends in July.

Ryan's footballers, who blew an early lead against Dublin in their Leinster SFC quarter-final, were knocked out of the All-Ireland Championship in the qualifiers by eventual finalists Cork.

Bonnar's hurlers won the National League Division 2 title, thus securing promotion, but they only had two outings in the Championship, losing to Galway in Leinster and Tipperary, the eventual champions, in the All-Ireland series.

The former Tipperary star will embark on his third year with the Model men next season, but has intimated that there will be changes to his backroom staff.

Ryan, who is rated as one of the best young managers in the country, is also set to alter his management team.

2011 will mark the Waterford native's fourth year at Wexford's helm, and gaining promotion from Division 3 of the National League will be the immediate target.

Indications early this year were that this would be Ryan's final campaign with Wexford. But he obviously feels that further progress can be made, helped by the close bond formed between the players and management. "I love this set-up and everybody involved loves it," he admitted recently.
