It is reported that the body of an elderly woman has gone missing from Co Kerry after a dispute arose over official documentation for her burial.

The remains of the 80-year-old - who had died in late September while on holidays - were last seen in a rented house in the Kenmare area.

A report in the Kerry's Eye says the woman's body was transported from Malta to London's Gatwick airport, before being driven to Co Kerry without the relevant authorities being informed.

A local landlord found the woman's body laid out at a rented house in the Kenmare area, and informed the Gardaí, who spoke to a relative of the deceased, believed to be her son.

He was informed of the proper procedures involved, and was told that he must organise a burial for the woman, or the body would be confiscated.

It is understood that the woman's son intended to seek a plot of land in Kenmare in which to bury her, but was unsuccessful.

A few days later, when the gardaí returned to the house, the man had apparently left with the body. T

Their current whereabouts are unknown.
