Professor Albert Flynn has been appointed to the Board of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
Prof. Flynn replaces Prof. Martin Cormican, who has resigned due to work commitments.
He joins the FSAI from University College Cork where he was the Professor in Nutrition in the Faculty of Food Science and Technology and will continue as Chairman of the FSAI's Scientific Committee and Chair of the FSAI's Nutrition Sub-committee.
Prof. Flynn is also a member of the European Commission's Scientific Committee on Food and has particular expertise in food safety risk assessment and food chemical intake perspective in relation to health.
Commenting on the appointment, Dr Patrick Wall, Chief Executive, FSAI said that Prof. Flynn will make a great contribution to the policy direction of the FSAI.
"He brings to our organisation a deep, specialist knowledge base that will be hugely beneficial to the FSAI," said Dr Wall.
