Harney: Govt will not underwrite co-location costs

The Minister for Health Mary Harney has said that there is no question of the Government underwriting the cost of new co-located hospitals.

The Minister for Health Mary Harney has said that there is no question of the Government underwriting the cost of new co-located hospitals.

Ms Harney said the down-turn in the economy should not affect plans to build private hospitals on the site of public facilities.

The minister said that if the private sector fails, the state will not be obliged to buy out the developers or to cover any debts.
