Almost two years after the Government vowed to eliminate hospital waiting lists, there is still a 27,000 person-long queue to get treatment.

Almost two years after the Government vowed to eliminate hospital waiting lists, there is still a 27,000 person-long queue to get treatment.

The coalition made the commitment before the last election, and as local and European polling day approaches, the Labour Party said the health issue should "not be made an election gimmick".

A private members bill will be tabled in the Dáil this week to force a debate on the issue.

Labour's Liz McManus says the Government needs to make up its mind on the Hanly health service reforms.
