A Wexford man has been convicted of raping and sexually assaulting his son’s girlfriend.

A Wexford man has been convicted of raping and sexually assaulting his son’s girlfriend.

The 46-year-old accused had pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to one count of rape and one count of sex assault in his car on August 13, 2006.

The jury returned verdicts of guilty on both counts on day 10 of the trial following six hours and 49 minutes deliberation.

Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy thanked the jury of eight men and three women for their service and exempted them from further service for 10 years beyond the usual period.

He certified the man as a sex offender and set a sentence date of May 30 next.
