Lightning strikes in the Newcastle area have led to a power cut at Gosforth Park ahead of this afternoon’s meeting.

Lightning strikes in the Newcastle area have led to a power cut at Gosforth Park ahead of this afternoon’s meeting.

Phone lines have been affected and other services temporarily disrupted at the course.

The course has also been hit by significant showers, with approximately 18 millimetres of rainfall over the last 30 minutes.

No inspection has been planned, however, with Newcastle officials confident power will be restored before the six-race card, which is due to commence at 2.30pm.
