A search for a body in Lough Muckno, Co Monaghan, has been called off.

Gardaí in Castleblaney last night received a report saying a man was drowning in the lake.

Monaghan Sub Aqua Club and gardaí began a search this morning, but decided to suspend it after receiving another phone call, believed to be from the person who made the initial report.

An investigation has begun and gardaí say charges of wasting garda time will follow if the report is found to be a hoax.
