Gardaí are continuing to interview a 30-year-old Corkman who was abducted from the city centre and taken out to the countryside where he was badly beaten.

The man was bundled into the boot of a car by two or three men at Paul Street at around 3.30am on Wednesday and driven to Inniscarra where he was badly beaten.

The man, who is known to the gardaí, managed to make his way to a nearby house where he raised the alarm.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he remained today. Gardaí are examining CCTV footage and the results of technical examinations conducted at both scenes.

Gardaí are looking for a taxi driver who was sitting in a red cab parked in the rank opposite St Peter and Paul Street to come forward.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the gardaí on (021) 4522000.
