A ruling is due today in the case of a man charged with making a false statement to Gardaí arising out of an alleged incident involving the Defence Minister.

Willie O'Dea told Limerick District Court last night that he did not punch Matt Larkin in a Limerick city bar last September.

Matt Larkin from Altamira Court, Thomondgate alleges that the Minister punched him in the stomach several times before grabbing him by the throat during the alleged incident.

The 35-year-old denies that the statement he made to Gardaí last October was false.

Justice Tom O'Donnell is due to make a ruling later this morning.
