Reynolds says Adams' membership is unclear

Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds has said that it is difficult to prove that Gerry Adams has been involved in the IRA.

Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds has said that it is difficult to prove that Gerry Adams has been involved in the IRA.

Mr Reynolds made the comment today after the Sinn Fein leader claimed this morning that he had never been a member of the IRA.

Security forces have claimed until now that Mr Adams was involved in bombings in the North 30 years ago as a member of the IRA.

Mr Reynolds says that Mr Adams’ membership of the organisation is difficult to prove.

He maintains that nobody has been able to say otherwise one way or the other.

The ex-Taoiseach stresses that it was never really established.
