Francois Ozon’s 5x2 (Pathé) is an unconventional love story which starts at the end and then works its way back.
Confused? Simple really. Marion (Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi) and her husband Gilles (Stephane Freiss) sign off on the papers as their marriage dissolves, but in a series of flashbacks we get a glimpse of what first brought them together and made their relationship so loving, tender and funny.
But we also see a catalogue of cruelty, bitterness and vindictiveness as love goes out the window.
5x2 has scooped several film awards, and for any fan of Ozon (who recently achieved fame — or notoriety — for Swimming Pool) this is an impressive, though occasionally annoying work. Included is a Making of featurette and deleted scenes.
