Cork woman Joanne O'Riordan has been honoured in Japan.
The disability campaigner has been chosen as one of 10 Junior Chamber International Outstanding Young Persons of the World for 2015.
Judges say Joanne has become a global voice for the disabled and a national symbol of hope.
She got almost half of the 26,000 online votes for the award when she was shortlisted by a public vote and received the award today which honours individuals under the age of 40 who have contributed greatly to local and global communities.
Joanne told the 600 people at the ceremony: "Life is what you make of it. We all face obstacles in our lives, it's only a matter of overcoming them.
"Each and everyday I live by the motto of what I fail at today I will overcome and conquer tomorrow."
