An entertainment company co-founded by Oscar winner Morgan Freeman has set up a new digital partnership with a California firm to allow movie fans to download films via the internet.

Freeman's new venture, ClickStar Inc, will enable film fans to download movies legally for a fee, before they're released on DVD.

The new partnership with computer chip giants Intel Corp hopes to provide some movies while they are still being shown in cinemas.

Announcing the new venture at Idaho's Allen & Co media conference, Freeman said: "Our goal is to deliver first-run premium entertainment to film fans around the world and to make film easier to buy than to pirate."
