Singer-songwriter Damien Dempsey has put his street cred on the line in a words-to-music skit on Australian TV.
Damo’s task was to set words from the magazine Stylish Doggywear (yes) to a well-recognised tune on ABC Television’s Spicks and Specks.
So, to the melody of Dirty Old Town, we got:
“When Autumn leaves begin to fall, and the air turns chilly,
It is time to think about a wardrobe for the dog in your life.”
And, to the tune of Thin Lizzy’s The Boys Are Back In Town, we were advised to set “the frill evenly till it fits along the stitching line indicated on pattern two” and, passionately: “Use the zigzag stiiiiitch, the zigzag stiiiiitch.”
As Damien’s observed: “If my mob at home sees this, I’m finished...Years of street cred are gone in two minutes.”
Go for it, Damo. (As Jason Byrne yells in the clip)
