Redknapp waits on Lennon fitness

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is sweating on the fitness of winger Aaron Lennon ahead of the club’s final push for a place in the Europa League.

Lennon missed last week’s draw against Everton when a groin complaint he was carrying flared up – and after treatment on Wednesday it is still uncertain whether he will be ready to face Manchester City at the weekend.

Spurs need a result to have a realistic chance of finishing seventh, and they are more hopeful of left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto coming back from a foot problem.

Redknapp’s men have only conceded nine league goals at White Hart Lane this season and could break the club record of 11. If they avoid a heavy defeat they will break the Premier League record of 16.

“That is why we are where we are,” said midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

“We have creative players and goalscorers but we needed to stop conceding goals.

“It’s a credit to the whole team. When the records are there it’s something we are proud of.”

Spurs have won their last four home games 1-0, with Jenas adding: “We needed a few one nils, we weren’t getting them before – we were losing or drawing.

“City are a team we have to be careful of, they have an abundance of players that can hurt you.”
