Charismatic Kerr just the job, say experts

He came. He saw. He conquered. If the reception that the newly-installed manager of the Republic of Ireland national team received is a suitable gauge for success, Brian Kerr just won the game of his life.

He came. He saw. He conquered. If the reception that the newly-installed manager of the Republic of Ireland national team received is a suitable gauge for success, Brian Kerr just won the game of his life.

Kerr just couldn't stop smiling. He explained. "It's not bad here," he explained. "It's the biggest job in Irish football. In fact I believe it's the biggest job in world football.

"I couldn't be more proud."

He spoke of pride and passion and how he now hopes to integrate Irish football at all levels.

Kerr hasn't forgotten his roots. He spoke of squad tinkering, long term planning and an underlying desire to continue the advancement of the Irish game.

Former Irish manager Eoin Hand explained, "This is an exciting day and a brilliant move. He'll bring his own blueprint for change, a greater flexibility to the squad and vast experience.

"I'm confident he'll be a great success."

Interviewer Bryan Hamilton - responsible for feeling out suitable candidates - concurred. "He's an enthusiastic man with a great knowledge of the game. The brief, for me, was very simple. To be very thorough and to make sure that all the applicants were of the highest possible standard. I believe we've managed to do that, an in Brian, Ireland has an excellent manager in place."

Re-installed goalkeeping coach Packie Bonner added, "14th place in the world is a good platform for this squad to improve. I'm confident in Brian and that his passion will rub off on people."

Just another day in the life of Brian.
