The Irish Financial Services Regulatory Authority (IFSRA) today advised all insurance policy holders to check the expiry dates on their policies in order to avoid any renewal problems that may arise during the current postal dispute.
The IFSRA said that the postal dispute is causing problems for insurance companies and brokers sending out motor insurance renewal notices to their customers 15 days in advance of expiry.
All insurance policy holders, in particular motor policy holders, should examine their policies and note the expiry date.
Should the expiry date occur over the next three weeks they should immediately contact their insurance company or broker to enquire about a renewal.
Mary O'Dea, Consumer Director also called on insurance companies and brokers to attempt to contact their customers to advise them of renewal dates which would otherwise have been sent by post.
The Financial Services Regulator has also today advised insurers and brokers to record in their client files any efforts to contact their customers.
"The postal dispute may also lead to potential difficulties for consumers in accessing other types of information, such as bank statements and credit card bills.
"Again, we would advise consumers to check with their financial institutions if they require this information urgently", she added.
