Investigations are continuing in Co. Cavan into a bank robbery which occurred in Kingscourt yesterday evening.

A number of armed men, rammed a car through the Bank of Ireland in the town at around 5pm, and threatened staff. No shots were fired and no one was harmed.

They stole a substantial amount of cash, before making their getaway in a waiting car, which was set alight a short distance away.

The men then escaped in a second car in the direction of Bailieboro.

Gardaí believe at least six men were involved in the raid and they are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Inspector Fergus Treanor says a number of cars were used in this robbery.

Inspector Treanor said: "The first one is a white Berlingo van. This vehicle was burnt out on the main street and we would be anxious to find out if anyone had seen that vehicle.

"The second vehicle we are interested in is a blue BMW 330 Series and the last vehicle is a black and silver Suzuki motorbike."
