In what has been described as a surprise move, the Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy has said that Ireland’s rejection of the Nice Treaty is a positive result.
The Minister has been speaking at the conference of Finance Ministers at the EU Summit meetings in Gothenburg.
Mr McCreevy says that there is no point in criticising the Irish electorate for their decision and that the Government must now react according to it and that he was glad the Irish people proved that they could make up their own minds on such an important issue.
